Retired Afloat is at Copenhagen, Dennmark.

We arrived in Copenhagen with overcast skies and a forecast for rain. The afternoon forecast seemed better, so we spent some time in the gym and the spa before walking into town after lunch.
We spotted the Royal Danish Yacht leaving the harbour and we were told that Queen Mary (formerly a young lass from Tasmania, Australia) was on board.
The skies did open up during our walk, however it was worth it to just take in the beautiful architecture.

After a leisurely morning in Warnermünde we took the shuttle to Rostock. Once a major city in the Hansiatic League it still retains much of the architecture from that era. A lovely town to wander around and enjoy.

Retired Afloat is in Ronne Bornholm, Denmark.

"Where is that?" I hear you ask. Rønne is a small port on a Danish island called Bornholm in the Baltic sea off the south coast of Sweden. It's a quiet, sleepy destination which we landed in on a religious holiday. Only the cafes were open. However, they were all alfresco and we had a sunny day for people to sit outside and relax.
In its north are the clifftop ruins of Hammershus, a medieval castle. In the port town of Rønne, Bornholm Museum reflects 10,000 years of local history, including the WWII occupation.

This morning we had a wander around the old town of Gdansk before brunch at Stodko Soto. A fabulous little restaurant we discovered last week just off the old town. Not to be missed if you love a waffle... or two and a cuddle and kiss from the restaurant puppy ❣️
Back to the ship before the rain came and got into the gym, the spa and laundry. Goodness gracious, that must be drinks! 🥂😄
And then there was sunset.

Tallinn, Estonia is our first stop of our final leg, our 12th itinerary for our "Viking" season.
We took the opportunity to wander the old town one last time and checked out a few laneways we hadn't been down before. We were rewarded. We found Pierre Chocolaterie. Pierre has a really early time period feel about it and the most sensational hot chocolate. But we didn't have just your ordinary hot chocolate, it was called an Ancient Aztec hot chocolate with vanilla, honey and salt. We didn't know what to expect and it was delicious!

Just beautiful! I’m on the Viking Mediterranean cruise now and sure am missing your lectures on this trip!
You really are following in our 2009 sailing cruise up the the Baltic East coast, I enjoyed being reminded of Gdansk where in those days you could eat at the best restaurants (where Maggie Thatcher dined) for the cost of a UK pub meal, I bet that's all changed! Then when we left heading for Hel we were hit by a Beaufort 10, which did some damage to our job, so we returned to Gdansk, where port control confirmed the Force 10. The next morning a sail maker took the jib away and returned it in the afternoon all for the cost of £30! In Tallinn we arrived when the five yearly music and dance festival was on, when the finale is a choir of £2,000 singing at an open air concert venue, they processed from the city centre in all their costumes and kept the president waiting for two hours, the fact that the heavens opened not long after the main choir event is another story. When in Estonia we used Arthur Ransome's "Racundra's First Cruise" book to navigate by!
What a lucky find! Xx
